QUESTIONS FOR THEFUTURE

Tracing the histories that made our present.

For young researchers, creators, artists, and thinkers.

2026 THEME: Questions for the Future

Tracing the histories that made our present.

The future does not begin tomorrow. The technologies, systems, ideas and ways of living we take for granted today all have histories.

In 2026, SHP invites young people to begin with the present, trace how it came to be, and ask what might be understood, challenged or imagined differently for the future.

We are not looking for predictions. We are looking for better questions.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The Open Call is the main way to begin participating in SHP.

You may join with a question, an emerging research project, a piece of writing, or simply a strong curiosity you want to develop into sustained inquiry.

01

Body, Medicine & Life Science

Bodies, care and life

How medical knowledge, bodily standards and life technologies reshape care, identity and lived experience.

02

History of Infrastructure

Systems behind daily life

How energy, interfaces, cities and everyday technologies become the invisible conditions of modern life.

03

History of Knowledge

Memory, evidence and authority

Who produces knowledge, how it is recorded, and which people and experiences disappear from the story.

04

History of Automobiles & Mobility

Movement, cities and energy

How cars, roads, speed and energy systems reshape urban space and modern life.

05

Mobility, Transport Technology & Safety

Transport systems, technology and public safety

How vehicles, intelligent transport systems, infrastructure and safety practices shape movement, access and public life.

06

History of X

Objects, standards and hidden systems

Begin with an object, concept or system and trace how it was made, changed and absorbed into social life.

WHY SHP?

Why are we building SHP?

“I was not born with knowledge. I am fond of antiquity and earnest in seeking it.”

— The Analects, Shuer

I started SHP with a simple curiosity: Where does knowledge come from, and what happens after it enters the world?

Science gives us methods for investigating the world. Humanity keeps our attention on lived experience, culture, dignity, institutions and unequal consequences. Philosophy helps us question the concepts, assumptions, values and responsibilities that guide what we know and build.

At SHP, these are not separate subjects. Young people bring them together through questions, research, projects, writing and public dialogue.

We believe the next generation should not only learn to succeed within existing systems, but also develop the intellectual independence to question, interpret and reshape them.

Curiosity, rigor and a sense of responsibility to the world are the qualities we hope to cultivate here.

We look back to understand how knowledge was made, look around to see how it shapes human life, and look forward to ask what more responsible futures might require.

If you are curious, questioning, or simply willing to explore, we invite you to join us.
Bring a question, an idea, or a different way of seeing — and help shape the SHP community with us.

WHAT IS SHP?

A platform for knowledge in the making.

SHP is a youth-led platform for inquiry.

We bring scientific investigation, human experience and philosophical reflection together, then develop questions through research, projects, writing and public dialogue.

  1. 01

    QUESTION

    Ask a question worth pursuing.

  2. 02

    INVESTIGATE

Research through history, archives, data, observation and dialogue.

  3. 03

    CREATE

Translate understanding into experiments, projects or new forms of inquiry.

  4. 04

    SHARE

Share ideas through SHP Review, exhibitions and public discussion.

  5. 05

    CONNECT

Join a cross-regional, interdisciplinary network of young researchers.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Interest matters more than a single discipline.

We welcome:

We welcome people who are genuinely curious about how knowledge and technology shape human life—and willing to develop that curiosity through research, making, writing or dialogue.
